Theatre Community Engagement at Langdon Theatre Association

Our Community

Thanks to the dedication of numerous volunteers and Board Members over the years, we have established a strong and lasting organization within our community theatre. With the generous support of our funders, we have expanded in many ways and evolved our inventory of props and costumes. By employing professionally trained actors and theatre personnel to instruct our children and youth in our youth theatre program, we have set a benchmark for excellence in our presentations and productions.

Let's hear some reflections and thoughts from our founding Board Members…

"The idea of starting the drama program emerged when I was striving to have my son live with me in Langdon. I wanted him to have activities outside of school and video games. Drama seemed like a wonderful way for him and other kids in the area to express themselves positively. Looking back, I smile at the fun we had organizing and preparing for productions, building props, etc. We certainly learned a lot about the children, teens, and ourselves. I feel immensely proud to have been part of it all."

-Frank Hale

"As a newcomer to the community, I was thrilled at the prospect of launching a drama program to benefit the children and teens in our community. It was a worthwhile endeavor, something I wished I had in my own community growing up. Engaging in drama can help kids in numerous ways—from developing healthy self-esteem and confidence to enhancing self-expression and public speaking skills, not to mention just having fun! I feel fortunate to have contributed to the establishment of such an important program. The Langdon Theatre Association has become what it is today because of the dedication and countless volunteer hours from various board members and parents over the years. Celebrating ten years is a remarkable achievement, and for that, I say BRAVO!!"

-Trudy Hale

"We knew our whole family would get involved with the Langdon Theatre Association the first time we heard Frank ask, 'Hey Sandy, would you be willing to help with this?' Our oldest daughter was enrolled from the start, but our youngest couldn’t join until she could read. Nevertheless, she memorized every line of 'The Nightingale' before many actors had, just by listening to her sister. The following year, our youngest was able to participate and is still enrolled.

Before we had storage trailers, all our props and costumes filled our home. Without a basement, you couldn’t help but think theatre when you entered our front door. Our kids have contributed to props and costumes from the very beginning, and today we smile when we volunteer or watch a performance, reminiscing about the moments when certain items were created or purchased for our stage. We hold deep respect for all the actors over these past ten years, ranging in age from 5 to 18. They have overcome challenges like abscessed teeth, broken arms, and nerves because 'the show must go on.'"

- Sandy & Kim Cormack (written by Sandy)

"When Frank introduced the idea of a youth theatre program at a Lion's meeting, we were all taken aback. Coming from non-theatre backgrounds, we had no idea of the immense value a theatre project could offer, not just to the youth of our community but to the community as a whole. The Langdon Theatre Association has become a sustainable organization because parents recognize the incredible benefits it brings to the children. The volunteers managing the ongoing operations deserve a standing ovation."
